This class teaches the knowledge, skills and attitude necessary for the safe and proper use of a shotgun in shooting a moving clay target. The course is at least 10 hours long and includes classroom and range time. Students learn the NRA's Rules For Safe Gun Handling, shotgun parts and operation, shotgun shell components, shotgun shell malfunctions, shooting fundamentals, range rules, shooting at straight away and angled flying clay targets, cleaning and continued opportunities for further skill development. Students will receive the NRA Basics Of Shotgun Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, NRA Firearm Training brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, Course Exam and Course Completion Certificate
There are no prerequisites for taking this course, and the material is accessible to appropriately supervised mature children.
Students will receive feedback on the live-fire exercise and a course certificate upon successful completion of the lessons. Students will receive a "Basic Practical" rocker upon successfully demonstrating safe gun handling at all times, properly mount a shotgun, hit a moving target, and safely clean the shotgun.
