Note: This course qualifies as a Handgun Safety Course for the State of Hawaii
“To teach the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude for owning and using a pistol safely.”
The 8 hour course goal is to teach a student that has a firearm background the basic knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary for owning and using a single-action and double-action revolver or semi-automatic pistol safely. Students will apply and adopt the NRA's Rules For Safe Gun Handling and demonstrate how to handle the pistol in a safe manner, learn to explain the different components of a pistol cartridge and explain the firing sequence. How to properly identify, store ammunition and explain the major causes of cartridge malfunctions. Learn gun range safety rules and commands. Use the 6 steps of the fundamentals of pistol shooting at a target on a range from the bench rest two handed grip and standing two handed and one handed shooting positions. Students will receive the NRA Basics Of Pistol Shooting handbook, NRA Gun Safety Rules brochure, Winchester/NRA Marksmanship Qualification booklet, Course Exam, and Course Completion Certificate.
There are no prerequisites for taking this course, and the material is accessible to appropriately supervised mature children.
Students will receive feedback on the live-fire exercise and a course certificate upon successful completion of the lessons. Students will receive a “Basic Practical” rocker upon demonstrating safe gun handling at all times, safely unloading and loading, shooting a qualifying group, adjusting sights to zero the pistol and safely cleaning the pistol.
